Synopsis
China has developed at record speed becoming one of the world’s most modern countries. The film “My Five-Year Plan” follows three young, unmarried women between 2016-2023, Amber, Jingya and Tingting who in different ways struggle to follow their dreams, their loves, their ambitions. The Chinese state on the other hand displays increasing worries about falling nativity. At the same time, traditional Chinese family values are being strengthened, which both challenges and provokes young women in China. During the course of the filming, both Amber and Jingya end up in Europe, looking for different lives. But can Europe really fulfill their dreams?
Director’s Bio
KARIN WEGSJÖ is the author of many short and documentary films. Her films have won prizes both in Sweden and abroad (Guldbagge, Golden Spire Award, Karlov Vary etc). Last year her film “If Everyone Just Leaves” won the Angelos Prize at GIFF and Tempo Documentary Award. She writes, directs and designs for the theatre stage as well. She is a member of the artist group (P)art of the Biomass and has, throughout the years, made several films for the Nobel Museum.
