Synopsis

A talented drummer, Yahui has abandoned her comfortable life in Taiwan to live by her art and find freedom. After joining the Théâtre du Soleil, she shares the creative life of Ariane Mnouchkine’s multicultural troupe. In spite of the exaltation she feels, Yahui, separated from her husband and raising her daughter far from her Taiwanese family, is confronted with the reality of the choices she has made. She dreams of reconciling all the different hopes and desires bubbling up inside her.

Director’s Bio

Born in Taiwan, I-Chu Lin has worked with Hou Hsiao-Hsien and Wang Bing. She served as the editing assistant for Dominique Auvray and Mary Stephen and today she edits numerous documentaries and fictional films. Her film projects deal with questions of identity and multiculturalism. A Tempo is her first long-feature film project and was developed as part of the Fémis documentary workshop. She holds a masters in sociology from EHESS.
